How it all began

This and many other small acts of kindness showed me she was a special lady.”

What started as casual chats online turned into something impossible to ignore by day six. We met at Amano Cafe and just didn’t stop talking. Four hours flew by like minutes, bonded straight away by our love of sci-fi and all the little and big things that matter most to us.
My very first thought? Wow, this guy is loud. And yes, the busy cafe noise definitely didn’t help. I soon learnt that big, warm, unapologetic volume is just how he shows up for the world.
There wasn’t one big dramatic moment where I knew. It was all the small, steady ones: the way he always showed up, made time, and kept choosing me no matter what was going on. That quiet consistency told me everything I needed to know.
(And for the record, I take full credit for bringing out his secret curly hair! But honestly? My favourite thing is how happily he’ll try anything new, just for fun, just for us, or just to make me laugh.)

Like many people in this modern world, we met online. After chatting for a week she invited me to join her for a drink (she got sick of waiting for me to ask!) We met at a restaurant, and talked for hours. She was kind and warm, and had a beautiful smile. We talked about a lot of things and found we had a lot in common, we both liked Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and anime. We both enjoy playing video games. We shared similar family values and world views. I was so nervous! She was gorgeous, and very kind and patient.
